This is a slide from a 3 minute presentation at the UROP meeting about one ossible project for a summer student. The slides alone do not convey the talk nor the project. There are many possible related projects building client-based social networking tools.

2009 UROP -- one random Project

Currently Twitter are isolated silos

Note OpenMicroBlogging server-server protocols (laconica etc)

Project Goal: Make distributed decentralized open tweeting world

No app-specific smarts needed on server

Use existing linked data technology

Build on Tabulator User Interface platform

Required: Javascript and HTML DOM experience

Part of team, work with those working on related projects

Learn leading ege semantic web technology

What are the limitations?

What changes to the infrastructure would get over them?

Socially-aware read-write space

Decentralized: People and groups have URIs

Authenticate using foaf+ssl (improvement on OpenId)

Authorize using the social web of linked data

Who I studied with

etc etc

Write using SPARQL/Update (or WebDav)

Write arbitrary data -> build arbitrary applications with controlled access
