- I have a favor to ask of anyone here at MIT... would it be possible for me to borrow someone's laptop for my presentation? Mine doesn't play nice with projectors.
- 14:40:21 [amy]
- for how long do you need it Mike and when?
- 14:41:41 [stunes]
- at 2:30, just for my part of the DIG meeting
- 14:44:41 [amy]
- i'm hoping maybe someone else can help, but if not, i'm willing to lend my worst-case-scenario
- 14:45:04 [sandro]
- stunes, what format is the presentation in? you might be able to use mine, but it's linux.
- 14:45:18 [stunes]
- did it with slidy--HTML
- 14:45:36 [lkagal_]
- Mike, we can try to set up your laptop or you could use mine.
- 14:45:50 [stunes]
- ok
- 14:45:57 [stunes]
- i've tried mine before and it's a pain
- 14:46:48 [stunes]
- i'll give mine a shot with the projector right now and see what happens
- 14:46:59 [lkagal_]
- You could also use Yosi's old laptop - the screen doesn't work but for projecting you don't need the screen.
- 14:47:21 [stunes]
- hey, that'd work great--do you know where it is?
- 14:48:28 [lkagal_]
- Its in my office - in Ralph's desk. Please ask Ralph for it.
- 14:48:32 [stunes]
- ok
- 14:48:37 [stunes]
- thanks!
- 14:49:00 [lkagal_]
- Oh, just remembered that Yosi did not leave a login/password for the laptop. Could you ask Tim if he remembers his login/password for the laptop ?
- 14:49:23 [stunes]
- ok
- 15:18:09 [stunes]
- thanks, ralp
- 15:18:11 [stunes]
- ralph
- 15:19:17 [stunes]
- now that I think about it though, I may make the attempt to use mine (it's possible, just not simple or elegant), if nothing else, because I've got all of my SSH keys and stuff I'm realizing I need
- 15:19:27 [stunes]
- but thank you to everyone for the offers of help!
- 15:45:15 [sandro]
- what are you running on your machine, stunes? what makes it hard?
- 15:49:45 [stunes]
- linux... intel 915 integrated graphics
- 15:50:25 [stunes]
- for some reason, the driver for it isn't quite to the point of just plugging it in and it works
- 15:54:35 [stunes]
- winner! there were a few particular commands I forgot
- 16:01:33 [stunes]
- i forgot it's actually pretty simple to make the projector display work, but because the laptop's display and the projector are running different resolutions, the projector display gets cut off
- 16:01:53 [stunes]
- which when you're giving a powerpoint-esque presentation, is a bit of a problem
- 16:02:14 [stunes]
- but with a moveable and resizeable window, it's not really a problem
- 16:04:59 [stunes]
- laptop crisis averted, yay! thanks again, everyone

- (the problem of fullName vs first/last is the sort of practical problem that dominates a lot of the theoretical stuff. sigh.)
- 19:43:31 [DanC]
- well, "it should work" in the sense that it's a coherent design, yes, but...
- 19:44:07 [DanC]
- "it should work" in that it will save programmers from hard-coding checks for foaf:name, doap:name, etc.? I don't expect so; it seems too complex to get widely deployed.
- 19:44:48 [DanC]
- re complexity, we haven't mentioned rdfs:subPropertyOf nor rdfs:subClassOf
- 19:56:39 [DanC]
- (I actually missed the examples sandro was focussing on; the motivation for transform-as-needed is entirely theoretical, as far as I can tell)
